Saturday, November 27th the "boys" TeLUG are moved to reach the delightful village of Crecchio in the province of Chieti, with the aim of familiarizing the boys middle school programs and the operating system Linux and open source, navigating led as shown in the picture below, their "best weapons."

In the meeting, which lasted about three hours, attempted to share with the kids and teachers at the school, the basic idea that there is an alternative and that not only exists in the world of Windows, Microsoft Office but also other products that fight the advance of closed systems opposing a strict philosophy of openness of language and code.

Participation was, as you see, quite large and, in particular, we were pleased by the fact that an event was prepared in a short time, has instead given to the children and teachers a great deal of discussion and moments of interest.

The work begins with Claudio Scaccia introducing the day with gratitude to the teachers, pupils and the municipal administration of Crecchio that allowed the event. It passes the word to the undersigned that, for the first time in an event organized by TeLUG, presents a new subject: what's inside the computer.

Using my WalledPc, I showed what is inside of it, in some ways, magic box called the computer. Starting by food, through the CPU and ending with the various additional video cards, network and so I briefly described the operation of every single component that allows the operation of our home PC.

Thanks to Hugh Mastellani have also been able to see the inside of a hard disk drive and explains the operation of the head and trying to understand the difference between a mass storage type and a magnetic-type electronic. At the end of the intervention, Claudio then transported the WalledPC between the desks to allow the boys to give a sneak peek a little 'closer to this mysterious object.

Continues Maurizio Antonelli with the classic presentation of how the Linux operating system and founded the open source philosophy. Same maury then takes us inside a virtual sky through the program KStars. Emotions ran high to hear the "ohhh" boys durations approaching virtual galaxies, nebulas and planets.

The meeting continues with Fabio Riccio that provides an overview on some open source software, from the classic OpenOffice.org in VLC and other multimedia software. Obviously can not miss a moment purely aesthetic with the windows and the cube of elastic Compiz.

Another playful moment dedicated to the opensource world there Maury gives him that, using the original DVD, offers ten minutes of fun and laughter to the big boys with Big Buck Bunny, the cartoon made by the team of Blender with their animation software and the 'aid and other instruments as opensource.

A fitting conclusion for a morning which, I think, wisely Miscellaneous utility, interesting, the entertaining and educational in a mix that never allowed the young audience to fall into boredom and distraction.

Great day yesterday for the operating system Linux, the fulcrum of a series of events dedicated to him in over 120 cities. In Teramo we celebrated appropriately at the Auditorium of the 'Istituto Tecnico Commerciale and Programmers "Blaise Pascal" of Teramo.

Big turnout of the public, especially in the morning with over 300 appearances.

The afternoon devoted to an audience closer to home use with seminars on the use of Firefox (Valeria Durante), aware and safe use of electronic mail messages using encryption technologies and kstar, a global open source really catchy (Mauritius Antonelli).

This year, much attention has been given to the event by the press with a recovery by the TG3 Repubblica.it region and that in his article on national LinuxDay quotes so our event:

Ultimately, an event fully managed by the joint organization of TeLUG and teachers of the school that our hosts, excellent speakers and the attentive audience.

A big thanks especially go to all the speakers, which I believe is unique in the world, have remained largely on schedule by their actions allowing early closure of the morning session of almost 40 minutes and closing on time that afternoon.

Saturday, October 24th is the national day of LinuxDay 2009 with the aim of promoting Linux and free software which, to date, have joined more than eighty cities.

In the province of Teramo, the event is organized by the Teramo Linux Users Group, of which I am privileged to be president, and takes place from 09.00, and for the whole day at the 'Istituto Tecnico Commerciale and Programmers "Blaise Pascal" of Teramo, in Via Andrea Bafile, 39.

Of course, all lovers, users and computer enthusiasts are invited to attend.

If anyone had an interesting topic to which he would like to talk about the world of Linux and the 'Open Source or had experienced on a particular instrument on this world and wanted to share their experience with others then I invite him to propose a workshop for LinuxDay participating in the Call for papers and becoming rapporteur LinuxDay.

The previous post on the Conference on free software gives me the opportunity to speak again of Christian Biasco.

I had already virtually uncontaminated Biasco in this post that informed my readers on his splendid theatrical work "AIDS, the origins of evil." At that juncture I had paused to watch his other video work that I had seemed really exceptional but I forgot to give you account. Now I must not talk about it and show by some of his video creations on the world of computers and, in particular , the OpenSource world.

Enclosed in the project "PinGuide" there are currently two online video very beautiful, but above all very clear and manage to reach and to understand the topic even to a lay public with some inserts humor / sarcasm that makes the product even more enjoyable and useful.

The first video is about the browser Firefox

while the other relates to his brother Thunderbird

But going to read the wiki "The Yard" from which Christian Biasco coordinating the phases of the project "PinGuide" is going to discover that a video in the program are many more, and where will maintain the quality and expectations of the first two we have a lot of material video show in the next LinuxDay.

Friday 11 and Saturday, June 12th, 2009 I will be in Bologna, the Department of Mathematics, to attend the third Italian conference on Free Software.

Also will take advantage, Saturday 12 June, to attend the LUGConference 2009 held within the ConfSL.

If someone happened to be in these two days, near Bologna and wanted to come and listen to the conference or to meet with myself, I will be happy to greet him. It's definitely worth because there are really very interesting intervention.

And this year has passed, I mean the LinuxDay. The event, organized in over 120 cities in Italy was spent in Teramo glory in it without pain.

No glory in that, personally the event was a little 'subdued, with only forty participants throughout the day.

Who is not totally was the support of schools. Despite it had been contacted any school presented itself, even with a minimum representation.

No pain, however, because the event was interesting, the talk was interesting and personally I think for others seen the excellent results achieved by all the speakers and the location, at least by looking at the feedback form.

This year the usual location, l 'Istituto Zooprofilattico Abruzzo and Molise "G. Caporale" has made us a welcome surprise, instead of the usual projector, an excellent monitor of those "big" that allowed us to keep the talk visible without obscuring the room and avoiding any unnecessary so the effect sleepiness.

Excellent, as usual, the coffee breaks offered dall'IZS and lunch of pizza offered by Telug.

Really appreciate the gadgets have been distributed to the participants, especially the comfortable bag that becomes purse.

For next year is definitely to improve the relationship with the schools, perhaps by directly contacting, via telephone, some teachers rather than leave it to "spam" email or possibly break the LinuxDay in two stages, one morning in a school and a all'IZS afternoon.
